Salty scones and hoppy spread
Delicious combination of salty and creamy


Do you know scones? Scones are a kind of savory "muffins" - a bite-sized bread pieces, baked on a griddle or sheet. They are easily made, even if you don't fancy baking bread. The plus is you can be creative and make them a little different every time - in this salty scones recipe we used Swiss chard, which could easily be replaced with different kinds of herbs, sun-dried tomatooes, olives etc,

We love to serve them with our one and only living hoppy mustard spread (we invented it!) with kombucha.

Ingredients & directions - salty scones

  • 3 cups spelt flour

  • 6 tsp baking powder

  • 1 tsp salt

  • ¼ cup olive oil

  • 1 cup almond milk

  • 1 shallot, chopped

  • 1 bunch of Swiss chard, chopped

  • Fleur de sel to sprinkle on top

  • Ground smoked paprika to sprinkle on top


Fry the Swiss chard over onions and a little olive oil, to make it wilt a bit.

Mix all the dry ingredients in a bowl. Add olive oil and mix well. Then pour in the milk and mix well again. Add the fried mixture and repeat the mixing.

Make approximately 8 heaps from the mixture and put them on parchament paper.

Bake at 180 degrees Celsius, for 15-20 minutes or until browned a little. Cool down a little before consuming. 

Ingredients & directions - hoppy mustard spread

  • 1 cup sunflower seeds, soaked

  • ¼ cup Hoppy hour kombucha

  • 2 teaspoons miso paste

  • 1 lemon, juiced and zested

  • salt and pepper to taste

  • 1 tsp mustard 

Blend all the ingredients in a blender until smooth. 

Serve the scones with hoppy kombucha mustard spread and enjoy!
